OurRebekah is raising support for Ronald McDonald House Charities. SUPPORT does not automatically mean money, there is a lot more to what we are doing than that !

We are not a charity ourselves, a charity does not need another charity to fund raise for it. We are an independent group of friends generating support in memory of Rebekah. We DO NOT handle money, everything goes direct to Ronald McDonald House Charities via Just Giving. Our Just Giving total is shown on every page of our website.

We have ZERO administration costs. NOTHING is deducted from the money raised - NOTHING AT ALL.

Rebekah was known for her cheeky and infectious smile. We have taken that smile and put it right at the centre of all we are doing. Raising support for Ronald McDonald House Charities is the DESTINATION but ONLY the destination. The JOURNEY is to have fun, be a bit silly, to smile and importantly to make others smile. If the journey is fun then the destination will be a huge success.

Our little operation was set up shortly after Rebekah's passing in May 2017. We have been overwhelmed with love and support. Doors have been flung open wide to us. So many people have supported us in so many ways. People from captains of industry and commerce, politicians, friends, family, people from every walk of life. Every day we receive messages, e-mails, letters and phone calls from people sharing ideas and offering help.

Our original thinking was to simply hand over the money to Ronald McDonald House Charities and allow its administration to decide how our efforts are used. However, supporters are asking that specific projects support specific Ronald McDonald Houses. We, therefore, will assign a Ronald McDonald House to each project.

Wrigglies Exotic Pets Open Day and Frog Challenge: This event is being attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Milton Keynes who will oversee the frog challenge.  The original target for this event was 100 but we passed that income more than a month before the event is due to happen. We will double then, hopefully, treble the target. The income from this event will go to Ronald McDonald House in Oxford  This event is happening on Saturday 30th September 2017.

Milton Keynes Big Fun Run: This is the original event planned by Rebekah's Friends at the launch of OurRebekah. It has raised 782. The event is happening on Sunday 15th October 2017. The income from the sale of this item will go to Evelina in London

Doggie Treasure Hunt, BBQ and Retro Disco: This event is happening during the evening of Sunday 15th October 2017. Our target for the event is 1,000. The income from this project will go to Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham.

Fire a Rocket To Beck: Please note the rockets, there will be more than one, are FIREWORKS and not real rockets ! Do not be confused by a university's astro physics department being involved. This event is happening on 20th February 2018 The income from this project will go to Ronald McDonald House in Bristol.

Secret Santa: A lot of people are wanting to be a part of this project to send small Christmas gifts to families in Ronald McDonald Houses. We have yet to appoint a project manager and make a plan for things to happen. The project is primarily for gifts but people giving will also be invited to donate 2 for houses to spend on their own Christmas festivities. We have no idea what the response will be and can not even guess until the managing team is in place. However, it would be nice if we could do something for every UK based Ronald McDonald House as well as sending gifts to the two Ronald McDonald Houses in San Francisco.

Tea At The Ritz: This event will happen in February 2018. Beyond it being in the diary and a skeleton plan drawn up we have not started working on things yet. We can not, therefore, set a target. The income from the sale of this item will go to Evelina in London

Golden Gate Bridge Fun Run: This event is happening on Saturday 21st April 2018. It is part of a wider series of events happening in San Francisco over four days. The target for the event is 1,000. It has, so far, raised 100. The income from this project go to Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham As part of this event we will be taking gifts to families in the two San Francisco Ronald McDonald Houses and will be inviting families to join us in Golden Gate Park for a Hippie Party.

Three Peaks Challenge: The first planning meeting of the team is happening on Tuesday 3rd October. The team will decide at that meeting when the challenge is to take place. It will be some time in the late Spring or early Summer of 2018.  The team will also decide at the meeting what the target figure will be. It will be somewhere in excess of 1,000. Money will be divided between three Ronald McDonald Houses - Cardiff, Edinburgh and Alder Hey Liverpool.

The Wild Adventures of Di Central Eating: It is difficult to say when the illustrated book will be published. Dedications are already being compiled. Publication date will depend on the school involved producing the illustrations. Until the drawings are complete we do not know what the book's sale price will be. When it is published income from royalties will be monthly and not in a single figure. Money as it comes in will be given to Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham.

Following the request from supporters that we assign a Ronald McDonald House to each event David, Beck's Dad, is here suggesting to those supporters and to Ronald McDonald House Charities we adopt this plan.

EVELINA LONDON: Rebekah's Family DID NOT stay at this house. They stayed at Ronald McDonald House Guys Hospital, the very first Ronald McDonald House in the country. Although the childrens' unit in Guys Hospital was officially called Evelina Childrens' Hospital nobody ever called it by that name.  From Day One the house was not big enough to cope with the demand and need for families to be cared for. There was actually a waiting list !  The managing hospital trust decided to move the childrens' unit to St Thomas's Hospital and into better accommodation. This meant Ronald McDonald House was in the wrong place ! Coupled with the need to care for many more families a new house had to be built. A wonderful new house was built to accommodate many more families. The original Guys House was opened by HRH Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. This new house was opened by HRH The Duchess of York.

While Evelina, London, is not Rebekah's Ronald McDonald House it is the daughter of that original house.

The fun run set up by Beck's friends in her memory was for Ronald McDonald House Charities and so the money rightly belongs to Evelina as the successor of Guys. For events happening in London, The Lambeth Walk, Tea At The Ritz money should go to the local house. For our auction items which have a London connection, The Windmill Theatre, Tottenham Hotspurs FC, West Ham United FC this is also their local house.

OXFORD: As an adult Rebekah was cared for by Oxford University Hospitals. OurRebekah has a strong connection with the renal department at Churchill Hospital. It was consultant Doctor Phil Mason who helped us set up the e-bay auction and who contributed so much to its success. While OurRebekah covers the whole country, indeed with San Francisco we have an international element. Oxford is our local house.

OurRebekah is all about having fun, doing some amazing, crazy and often silly things. It is all about smiling and helping others to smile. As we do this we will support Ronald McDonald House Charities as it puts a loving arm around families with sick children in hospital, people who are going through some very hard times.

Spend a few moments with us here, check out our different events then come and have lots and lots of fun with us.

Believe it or not Christmas IS coming so time to plan this project

Ronald McDonald House in Oxford is currently accommodated within The John Radcliffe Hospital. John Radcliffe was a local man to where we are based. There is a plan to build a new purpose built Ronald McDonald House adjacent to the hospital. We would like to support this house and its project for new accommodation.

ALDER HEY LIVERPOOL: When Gerry and The Pacemakers provided something for our e-bay auction the income just has to go to Liverpool. We have also assigned the 1960's Sandi Shaw items to this house. Liverpool in the 1960's was the world capital of pop music. For our Three Peaks Challenge there is not a Ronald McDonald House near to Scafell Pike. Although a way off Liverpool is perhaps the closes and to we have added in Alder Hey.

David has a story to tell which is relevant to Alder Hey, a story he has not often shared.  Many years ago David was introduced to a family who had obtained a visa to bring their child to England for urgent medical treatment. They had not planned their visit, they were just desperate to save the live of their little boy. Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool did not refuse treatment but some how it was going to ha e to be paid for. A local church found somewhere for the family to stay but again costs were involved. David was asked if he could find help.

There was no Ronald McDonald House back then. David wrote to Prime Minister, Tony Blair, asking if the NHS could waive the hospital bill. Of course it could not. However, Alistair Campbell leaked the story, he gave David's letter to a national newspaper. PROBLEM SORTED ! Generous people came forward and all bills were paid.  If only there had been a McDonald House at Alder Hey back then.

BIRMINGHAM: Rebekah is a Buckinghamshire girl, born in Aylesbury, lived in Milton Keynes then moved to Northampton when she was married. Birmingham was just a place on a map. NOT SO FOR FATHER DAVID. He was a Sutton Coldfield man before moving to Milton Keynes but Birmingham and particularly the location of this house and the hospital it serves are very close to him.

As a child, David's father had a friend who was a high court judge. In those days the death penalty was in force and there were those whose existence had been terminated on the end of a rope on the orders of Sir Donald. The court over which he presided was right where the hospital can be found.  David tells of this judge visiting the family home, he was sitting doing his homework when Sir Donald walked in. Trembling Davuid stood up and for once in his life was lost for words !

Leaving school, David became a management trainee in a large department store which was just up the road from where the house is now located. He has so many memories of his youth all happening right where Ronald McDonald House can now be found.

The Wild Adventures of Di Central Eating is set in Birmingham so this is the obvious house to benefit from it. Discussions with the director at Sheffield Wednesday FC want their gift to benefit this house. Garfield Sober's gift will be assigned to Birmingham.  Gordon Banks lives a short distance from where David's paternal grandmother was born and brought up. The nearest house is Birmingham and so the Gordon banks items will be for Birmingham.

BRISTOL: Rebekah's two nieces live in Bristol. Their father and Beck's brother is a graduate of Bristol University. He now works as Managing Lawyer at The Environment Agency in Bristol.  David's first teaching boss was also a graduate of Bristol University. he owned a boys independent school. When he retired there were discussions for David to take over as headmaster but Rebekah was too ill to for Dad to make the commitment. When the head did eventually retire the school was close, site sold for development and the money given to Bristol University.

The Fire A Rocket To Beck project will happen in Bristol with money going to Ronald McDonald House in Bristol. It is possible another event may happen in South Devon in 2018.  If it does happen money will go to the Bristol House.

EDINBURGH & CARDIFF: Ben Nevis and Snowdon obviously feature in our Three Peaks Challenge so Ronald McDonald House in Edinburgh and Ronald McDonald House in Cardiff will benefit.

Where practical we will invites families staying at Ronald McDonald Houses to come along as VVIP (Very, Very Important People) guests to our events. We will contact houses on an individual and event by event basis to arrange this.

At all of our events we will ask people to write messages on cards we will prepare to send to families staying at Ronald McDonald houses.
